Volunteering opportunities based at the BCR York centre
If you live near York and want to get involved, there are many opportunities to volunteer and help at the York centre, working with the dogs or in the many other areas needed to support the work of the charity.
As well as general help, there are some specific part time managerial vacancies looking for the right person.
Although experience in the different areas will obviously be an advantage, what we are seeking are people who have interest and enthusiasm for the sort of work involved and some time to dedicate to the charity. In BCR we work together as a team so there will be plenty of support, guidance and training available.
Some of the work involved in these four positions is currently carried out by existing volunteers within BCR in addition to other duties they perform.
(No wonder we are all so tired)
By breaking down these areas and appointing individuals to run them, we will be able to do more and can treat each area as a developing project, giving the officer appointed to be in charge the opportunity to be involved in the way they are set up and run.

Events Manager

This opportunity has been taken.

Border Collie Rescue needs an events manager to organise a program of in house events, seminars and presentations at the York centre, including co-ordinating our Open Days, off premises, in hired venues.

This will involve some office and computer work and recruiting and organising other volunteers.

Flexible work, based at the York centre & from home. Will involve supervising events on & off premises, usually at weekends.

Show Manager Border Collie Rescue is looking for a show manager to book, organise and co-ordinate stands for the charity at Dog shows, Agricultural shows and a wide range of other events around the UK. The charity has two Marquees, generators and a range of other display equipment.

This also involves some office and computer work and recruiting and organising other volunteers.

Flexible work, based at the York centre & from home. Can involve attending various events, usually at weekends.

Both of the above officers will work closely with our Fundraising officer and Treasurer, Carol Dulson
Education Officer

This opportunity has been taken.

Border Collie Rescue has a lot of informational material available and we need someone to organise it all into a cohesive educational program, the results of which can be disseminated in a variety of ways to selected target audiences.

The education officer will work closely with the fundraising, show and events managers to ensure appropriate material is available on stalls and display boards and will also work with our webmaster to develop, set up and run a new website with information and advice about Border Collies. Familiarity with Adobe CS5 publishing software would be useful, but not essential.

The education officer will also be involved in helping set up and run a new video educational project with Colliewood Films, involving the commission of short educational films about Border Collies and the distribution of resulting material to appropriate audiences, including schools. This project will also involve the display of films at various venues using a DLP projector and other equipment owned by the charity.

Flexible work, based at the York centre & from home. Could involve attending various events, usually at weekends.

Border Collie Rescue - Colliewood Films

Colliewood Films is the in house video production company of Border Collie Rescue. We are looking for a production manager to be involved in the commissioning and production of films for, and about, the charity and its work.

The role also includes the development of the Colliewood Films website and sourcing and negotiating suitable material from other video makers for inclusion on the site or in the video educational project run by BCR.

Interest, if not experience, in a wide range of film production processes would be essential. Familiarity with Adobe CS5 video editing software would be an advantage.

Flexible work, based at the York centre. Will involve recruiting and organising other volunteers.

Colliewood Films is also looking for other volunteers who have enthusiasm and interest in visual and audio media who may wish to become involved in the work of Border Collie Rescue by helping us to make films, music and other presentations.
