OIPA is looking for International Representatives

OIPA - International Organization for Animal Protection, is an International Confederation of associations (today, 170) for the animal protection and for the defence of animal rights all over the world. Founded in 1981 by Milly Shar Manzoli, OIPA is a Non Governmental Organisation associated to the UN Department of Public Information since 1992. The purpose of the Organization consists in the defence of animal rights and in the defence of the animals from every kind of mistreatment. It also follows the purpose of improving the public health through the abolishment of any kind of animal experiments throughout the world.

The fight for animal rights is long and hard. OIPA is looking for new international representatives

International Doctors

International Doctors is an international Association of doctors from different countries who fight against vivisection on a scientific level. It was founded on the 24th of October 1987 in Zurich.

The association International Doctors - LIMAV is formed by scientists against vivisection who work in the research fields where it is practised.

To International Doctors - LIMAV can apply people with a degree in one or more of the following subjects: Medicine and Surgery, Veterinary Medicine, Biology, Pharmaceutical sciences, Chemistry, Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies, Natural Sciences, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering. Applying to International Doctors - LIMAV is completely free and doesn't involve any payment. The only duty is agreeing with the charter, "The Legacy's purpose is to abolish animal experimentation".

STOP THIS MONKEY BUSINESS IN NEPAL

In Nepal, rhesus monkeys either co-habitat with humans as revered temple monkeys or live a tribal life deep in the high mountain forest. Monkeys are highly intelligent animals and maintain intricate social structures. They are an integral part of the land's eco-system and culture and are worshipped by the Hindu population. However, commercial interests have led to the removal of monkeys from their natural environment.

STOP THE ILLEGAL TREATMENT OF INDIAN COWS

Animals used by the leather industry are transported to states where they can legally be killed. Forced to walk through the heat and dust for days without food or water, many of the animals collapse. Handlers pull the cattle by ropes through their noses and twist their necks, horns and tails or rub chilli peppers in their eyes in order to keep them moving.

Cows, buffaloes, goats and sheep are crammed onto lorries to be taken for slaughter in conditions which are so crowded that many are gouged by the horns of others or suffer broken bones from being crushed. Many of them die en route – often from suffocation. Once at the abattoir, it is common for animals to be dragged inside and cut open with dull knives – often in full view of one another, which is illegal. Some animals are skinned and dismembered while still conscious.

Gulshan Grover, Raveen Tandon, Shamita Singha and Luke Kenny along with top designers such as Hemant Trevedi, Anita Dongre and Stella McCartney have stopped using leather. They join the growing list of international celebs who opt to use humane materials instead of leather.

CHINA 2008: STOP THE KILLING

The industrialised use of animals is currently growing rapidly in Asia. At the same time, there are few laws to prevent animal cruelty. Animals in Asia are exploited in many ways.

Please write a letter to the Chinese authorities urging them to enact an animal welfare law that will stop the cruelty. It is important that we campaign for these animals with absolute dignity. Please keep your correspondence polite and factual at all times.

PETITION BAN FUR FARMING IN ITALY

Eighty-five percent of the fur industry's skins come from animals living captive on fur factory farms. These farms can hold thousands of animals, and the practices used to farm them is remarkably uniform around the globe. As with other intensive-confinement animal farms,

the methods used on fur factory farms are designed to maximize profits, always at the expense

of the animals.

EUROPEAN CONVENTION PROTECTING PETS AND STRAY ANIMALS

Mr. Alain Hutchinson MEP, is committed to cooperate for animal welfare and to get a “European Convention Protecting Pets and Stray Animals” passed as soon as possible.

Every day animal welfare organisations receive cries of help relating to the massacres perpetrated on domestic animals. It is common to witness the aggressive capture of stray animals which is then soon followed by a long-lasting and usually agonising death. These images are shocking.

Every year in Canada, hundreds of thousands of baby harp seals are mercilessly slaughtered for their skins. Your voice is urgently needed to help urge the Canadian government to ban the killing of seals once and for all. More than 1 million baby seals have been killed in the last four years. 

The hunt is opposed by the overwhelming majority of people in Canada and around the world.

CHINA BEAR RESCUE

Since October 2000, over 40 bear farms have been closed down by the Government and over 193 bears released into the care of Animals Asia at their Moon Bear Rescue Centre in Sichuan. The bears arrive in the most shocking condition - bone thin, desperately ill and terrified, but with tender loving care and intensive veterinary attention the vast majority of them recover.

521 ANIMALS TREATED BY VCO (OIPA MEMBER LEAGUE)  IN FREE VETERINARY TREATMENT CAMPS IN 3 VILLAGES OF GUJRANWALA DISTRICT

Vets Care Organization Pakistan organized free veterinary treatment camps in three villages of Kamonki Tehsil of Gujranwala District on Sunday March 30, 2008. About 36 veterinary students; members of Vets Care Club from the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences Lahore along-with veterinary doctors participated in the camp in the supervision of Dr. Zia-ur-Rehman (Advisor, Vets Care Club). A briefing session was held at the Civil Veterinary Hospital Wahndo. Past President of VCO and Veterinary Officer CVH Wahndo Dr. Qamar Majeed told about the status of animal health in the area, major diseases, their effects and prevention moves against those diseases.

H&M DISTANCES ITSELF FROM MULESING

In Australia, where more than 50 percent of the world’s merino wool - which is used in products ranging from clothing to carpets - comes from, lambs are forced to endure a gruesome procedure called mulesing, in which huge chunks of skin and flesh are cut from the animals’ backsides, without any painkillers. When their wool production declines, some sheep are shipped to the Middle East on crowded multilevel ships.
These journeys are to countries where animal welfare standards are non-existent. The suffering sheep are dragged off the ships, loaded onto trucks, and dragged by their ears and legs to unregulated slaughterhouses, where their throats are slit while they are still conscious.

Reports in the UK press - The Times on 25th February and the Daily Mail on 8th March - regarding stray cats in Beijing have caused major concern to animal lovers worldwide. Many of us are worried that thousands of cats may be in danger due to the Chinese government’s preparation for the Olympic Games this year. As soon as ACTAsia heard the news, our colleagues in China immediately started looking for evidence. We also contacted members of several key Beijing animal groups.

CRUELTY IN SPAIN

Say NO to cruel Spain. We ask you to avoid tourism in Spain, and to avoid buying Spanish products. It is the only way left to make pressure on Spanish Government in order to have a new, serious, active Law for Animals' Protection. Mistreatments, tortures, killings of various animal species in Spain are reaching a level that it is not possible to accept even for persons not directly involved in animal protection issues.

We do not want to be harmful to anyone or offend anybody: we only want that animals will be protected. The quicker the Law will be done, the quicker this campaign will end.
