The Falls at Richmond
As the river Swale sweeps past the hill at the foot of the Castle, it breaks over falls and cascades. Great for paddling in the summer, this is a popular spot for both tourists and locals, but the river is fickle and in the winter floods the volume of water can be so great that the falls vanish under the flow. The Swale is reputed to be the fastest running river in England - seen here with a moderate flow in the top picture, in the two below with a greater force.
