Many thanks to Jenny Watson and all the dog handlers who attended her Newmarket Course- £55 raised. |
Jenny
arranged a whip round at the course and everyone dug deep and raised
£55 for our welfare fund. This donation will go towards the costs of
Vet bills and dog food.
Many thanks to Ian Oldham of Richmond, North Yorkshire - £108.50 raised. |
Ian
went on a sponsored walk up Ben Nevis on 10th September this year and
raised the above sum from friends and family. Our extended thanks go to
all who sponsored him. At our current costs for dog food, this sum will
feed an average sized Border Collie for about a year.
Our thanks to Heidrun Werner and Klaus Siedler of Bochum, Germany. - £60 donated |
Our
thanks also go to these good people for the help and assistance they
gave to Border Collie Rescue while they were on holiday in Yorkshire
this summer and for the additional donation of some well made German
Training Leads and other items.

Our thanks to Mrs Deidre Hawkes of Cantebury, Kent - £100 donated |
Mrs
Hawkes contacted us by e.mail to enquire about dogs on our Website and
was referred on to Battersea Dogs home. She had recently lost
'Campbell', her Border Collie of 16 yr., who died after a short illness.
In his memory, she has made this donation to the work of Border Collie
Rescue and thus enabled us to give a fresh start to two unwanted dogs.
Our thanks to Sally Pounds and to the Executors of the estate of Mrs P. Pounds - £1174 raised |
Mrs
Pounds contacted us to adopt a dog in February 2000, but we were unable
to assist her at the time. Sadly, we later heard that she had passed
away. Mrs pounds was a very popular and respected lady who was well
known for her interest and kindness to all animals. She had a
particularly soft spot for Border Collies. Instead of flowers at the
funeral, it was requested that donations were made to Border Collie
Rescue. A cash collection at the church raised over £800 with the
balance made up by cheques. The support we have received is a clear
indication of the respect and love that was felt for this good lady by
the people who knew her and miss her.

Our thanks to P. A. Moody of Loughborough in Leicestershire who sacrificed her birthday presents in favour of donations to BCR. £300 raised. |
Our particular thanks are given here to this collie owner who thought of those dogs, less fortunate than her own, on her birthday. The sacrifice of her presents and the support of her friends and family has provided the gift of life to half a dozen dogs. Many thanks to all involved. |
Our thanks to the Landlord, Staff and Regulars of the Unicorn Public House, Rosemary Lane, Richmond, North Yorks. £320 raised. |
The Unicorn holds regular Pub Quiz nights and have dedicated the proceeds from these events to local charities and good causes. This year Border Collie Rescue was selected as one of the beneficiaries. Paul Hunt (BCR fund-raising Director) received a cheque for £320 on behalf of BCR. The money went to our Welfare Fund and paid for the vaccination, worming and initial treatment to a litter of 6 pups that had just come into care. This litter have now all been re-homed, all have gone on to work stock. |
Our thanks also to the Proprietors, Staff and Regulars of The White Lion Inn, Cray, Buckden, Skipton, North Yorks. £511 raised. |
Frank and Barbara Hardy run this wonderful rural Inn, nestling beneath Buckden Pike in the heart of good walking, climbing and pot holing country. Having heard about the work of BCR, they decided to have a raffle on our behalf and put up a prize of a weekend B&B for two. Our special thanks go to their daughter, Avril Hardy, who threw herself into the project with gusto. She made an illustrated booklet about BCR from the information we sent and put it on display in the bar so that people could read about us. She then dedicated herself to raising awareness (and consequently ticket sales). Tickets were £1 each. 511 sold. By the way, this pub has some ground floor en-suite rooms where dogs are WELCOME. Many thanks to Frank, Barbara, Avril and the regulars and visitors that supported the raffle. We understand the winner is DELIGHTED and will be taking up their prize in the new millennium. This money has been credited to our Welfare Fund and will enable us to Spey 3 bitches and neuter a dog currently in care and awaiting this service. The balance will buy an awful lot of dog food - just in time for the Christmas rush. |
Special thanks to Miss Brenda Williams of Richmond, North York's for her dedicated and long term support |
Brenda deserves a special mention here for the constancy and regularity of her support and generosity - not only as a regular volunteer at fund-raising events where she has helped to raise thousands of pound over the years - but also as a regular personal contributor to the Welfare Fund. Brenda has donated a lot of dog food to BCR from single tins to whole sacks. She has paid for many more by dedicated cash or cheque donations to the BCR Welfare Fund. She has paid for dogs to be neutered and bitches to be spayed. She has donated Bric a Brac to sell at car boots and events, books to our library and knitted woollen blankets to keep rescue dogs warm. She has stood in all weathers for our street collections ( and usually manages to get more in her tin than anyone else does ), helped in the office, helped at open days, coffee mornings, car boot sales, stalls, demonstrations and sponsored walks. Whenever BCR has needed help, Brenda has been there. She still is. It is surprising how much difference one person can make. Thank You Brenda |
Many thanks to Adrian and Sarah Carey of Norfolk for raising £261.54 |
Adrian and Sarah have raised these funds by assisting people with their computer problems in return for a donation to BCR and for commissions they have received from the sale of books through their own Website and a well known Internet book company. The support given by Adrian and Sarah is ongoing and has been there for a number of years. Only recently, through checking our records, have we found this out. Now we can say a public - THANK YOU. These funds have been credited for the use of BCR Norfolk Region. Our thanks to you both. |
Thanks go to Barbara Miller for running a stall and competition at Richmond Middle School Christmas Charity Fayre. £25 raised. |
Barbara ran a 'find the songs' competition where the contestant had to make up as many names of Christmas carols and Christmas songs from 200 words displayed on a board - using each word only once ! We think she chose this competition because it gave her a chance to 'mark' her teachers - revenge can be sweet. Mr Tod was also there to be cuddled (in return for a donation in the box). Thanks also go to Mr and Mrs Miller for supporting and helping Barbara set up the competition and providing the prizes. |
Our thanks to Mr. Angus McGarry of Scarborough, North Yorkshire, who had his head shaved for BCR. £62 raised. |
Angus had never heard of Border Collie Rescue until he read an article about us in the summer. He decided that he would like to do something to help and came up with the idea of raising sponsorship by having his head shaved. Most of the people he approached for sponsorship had no previous knowledge of BCR but willingly supported his efforts. Our thanks to Angus and to all those that sponsored him. The funds he raised have been dedicated to our Welfare Fund |
Our thanks to Mr. Dave Burley and family for their donation of 2nd hand Computers, software and equipment for BCR use or sale. |
| Such
equipment is always useful and in this instance some of the hardware
will be integrated into the expanding BCR 'electronic office' - the
rest, and most of the software, will be sold to raise funds.
