Information for Applicants
Dear Applicant,
Thank you for considering Border Collie Rescue in your search for a suitable dog.
When we receive your returned application form we will hold it for up to one month. You should telephone us a couple of days after posting back your application to confirm that we have received it.  If we have not heard from you within a month of the date on your form, we will close your enquiry automatically. If you contact us during this month your file will remain active for as long as it takes.
We base our re-homing on the needs of the dogs we take in and are seeking to place dogs in homes and environments suited to them.  This process of locating a suitable dog may take time as we can only select from those dogs we have in our care, and we may not have a suitable dog ready for re-homing at the time your application comes in.
If this is the case we will keep your application open until a suitable dog comes in or until we hear from you that you have acquired a dog elsewhere or changed your mind and no longer require our services.
Please bear in mind that we are constantly checking and cross referencing a huge number of applications and it will be a waste of our resources if we are looking for a dog for you and you have already got one elsewhere.
It is therefore important that you notify us as soon as you have got a dog so that we can close your file.
To do this you can call at any time and leave a message with a duty officer or on the ansaphone, quoting your personal reference number (found on both the form and the covering letter sent with it) and telling us that you have got a dog. This applies if you should change your mind for any reason.
Border Collie Rescue works by matching dogs to homes suitable for their needs. The temperament and character of Border Collies is very diverse and is far more important than the appearance of the dog, whether you are looking for a pet or a worker. This is especially important where children are concerned.
When you fill in the form please answer all the relevant questions and provide as much additional information as you can on the back of the form or on a separate sheet. In order to reduce the risks of you acquiring a dog that later proves unsuitable we would need as much to go on as possible to make the correct match.
The more specific you are in your requirements - the longer it is likely to take to find a dog that matches them
Border Collie Rescue does not sell dogs - they are adopted under an agreement that specifies, amongst other things, that if you are unable to keep the dog yourself - for any reason - the dog must come back to Border Collie Rescue and must not be passed on to anyone else.
We ask for a donation when you adopt a dog from us but currently have no fixed amount - the donation is not a payment for the dog you are adopting, it is a contribution to the welfare of dogs we still have in our care and is not due until the adoption has been confirmed by the co-ordinator responsible for the case.
Before we can allow anyone to adopt a dog from us we will carry out a home visit. Once we have received your form back - at some point - one of our home visitors or inspectors will contact you to arrange this. Home visits are normally done when a dog is being considered for the home but may also be done, if it is mutually convenient, when one of our home visitors is in the area.
When we have found a dog that we feel you are right for, we will invite you to meet the dog at a mutually convenient time and place and if you like the dog you can adopt.
If you are not happy with our choice. there is no problem, we will simply start again and look for another.
If you have any further queries or require more information, please call us on 0870 4445838.
Thank you again for your interest.
