Please read this
page and the satellite pages linked to it to gain a greater understanding of how Border
Collie Rescue re-homes dogs. We are here because many Border Collies end up in the wrong
homes for their needs and temperament. We take all possible precautions to ensure that our
dogs go to the right homes.
This page explains how to go about making an
application - Pet or Working Dog / Sheepdog.
First
we would ask you to read the page on the end of this link. The information here will
enable you to see if your circumstances or environment will prevent us from placing a dog
with you. Different criteria apply to Working
Dogs
The next step is to telephone our
Re-homing Section in Richmond, North Yorkshire. - Border Collie Rescue maintains just one
office and one central contact point for the whole country. Click the HQ Info button on the main menu bar to
find out our normal office hours - or click here.
Please do not e.mail a request
for an application form - we need to speak to you directly before sending one out.
We will need to know your Full name
and address, postcode and telephone number. When we have your details we
will send you the Adoption Application form for you to fill in and return
to us. This will provide us with some basic information about yourself, what sort of dog
you are looking for and what you want it to be or do for you, plus details of the sort of
home you are offering.
When the form is returned we will
activate your file - then we look to see if you have a suitable home for any of
the dogs we have in our care. If we do not have a suitable match when your application
comes back we will keep your file open until a match is made or until you contact us to
tell us you have got a dog elsewhere.
If and When it seems
that a suitable dog is available - we would contact you by telephone to
arrange the home visit. A home visit is mandatory - This is normally done
with a dog in mind but may also be done if a Home Visitor or Officer is in your area for
another reason. We would need to find out more about you with a view to comparing your
home to the needs of the dog we have in mind so we will talk to you by telephone as well
and we may take up veterinary references. In
the case of a working farm we may approach a Vet' to home visit for us. If all
fits into place we would then invite you to meet the dog and if you liked the dog you
could adopt.
If, for some reason, you did not like
the dog or if we, or a Rescue Charity we work with feels that, on full investigation, it
is not a suitable match - we would advise you so and look for another one for
you. We would only offer a dog that we felt was suitable to live in your environment -
there are too many BC's in the wrong homes and we wish to resolve this problem not
perpetuate it - so it is important that you provide us with accurate information to enable
us and our colleagues elsewhere to locate a suitable dog.
