BECAUSE OF BORDER COLLIES A book to aid the work of Border Collie Rescue |

Indigo Dreams Publishing are seeking submissions
for a book to aid the work of Border Collies Rescue. The Book will be called - Because of Border Collies The book will be subject related and comprise of poetry, anecdotes, humour, short stories, case histories as prose and a few black and white line drawings. In particular, they are interested in receiving more prose, anecdotes and life stories. Poetry to 40 lines please and prose to 1200 words - 1500 in exceptional circumstances. Please do not focus on the death of a loved pet as it is highly unlikely that such will be selected. Please send contributions to publishing@indigodreams.co.uk and include BOBC only in the subject line. This is important as it will automatically transfer to the working folder. | I have had Border Collies all my life and love the breed. | |
| Skip was a dog that didn’t see too much life, died at just 4 years as an indirect result of over-breeding. It was devastating. | |
| My current collie, Soxx, survived a puppy-hood of cruelty and was eventually found in a locked shed with 3 buckets of water and food spread out on the floor chicken-style. The ‘caring owners’ had done a moonlight flit. The vets decided he was not ill, just neglected, and he came to me at just one year old. He’s now 10 and happy as the day is long. | |
| I’ve known of Border Collie Rescue for a long while. I learned more recently about their methods of re-homing, their care and attention, the selfless hours travelling the length and breadth of the UK to collect dogs who need another chance in life. | |
| I cannot express how much I admire their work and, through Indigo Dreams Publishing, I have the chance to help them. | |

Because of Border ColliesBecause of border collies I have had friends in the darkest hours companions who became outdoor shadows and learned the meaning of unconditional love Because of border collies I have been taught how to approach the day how to see places and objects with refreshingly new eyes and to appreciate the possibilities of the mundane Because of border collies I have been denied access to pubs had to apologise to picnickers for missing sandwiches and to Sunday walkers for water-sprayed clothes Because of border collies I have possessed hard-working vacuum cleaners had black hair hiding in carpets and clothes and mini-collie clumps under sofas and beds Because of border collies I have had the pain of ending life watch ageing take over willing but incapable bodies and cried so long and so hard in emptiness Because of border collies I have had a life that is full and beautiful that has made me a person who knows how to love and to be loved in an uncomplicated world By - Ronnie Goodyer, Indigo Dreams Publishing Ltd |
Border Collie Rescue is very grateful to Ronnie Goodyer, Dawn Bauling and Indigo Dreams Publishing, for their kind offer to produce and publish a book - "Because of Border Collies" in aid of our work on behalf of this wonderful and unique breed. It is so relevant in so many respects. The title sums up why we exist and why we do what we do. The content of poetry, prose, anecdotes and stories will be a unique and varied offering in praise of the breed we so love and respect. This will be a book filled with writings by people owned by Border Collies, each person with their own unique experience and perspective on the individuality of their dog. It will come from their heart, a place very much occupied by their dog. It will entertain, amuse, and hopefully inform.
