Just over four years ago, in 2005, Border Collie Rescue opened its first assessment and rehabilitation centre on a smallholding near York
The centre is the culmination of 15 years of planning and preparation including a two year pilot scheme on a farm near Richmond where the principles governing how it would operate were tested and proven.
The centre can accommodate between 20 and 30 dogs. If these dogs were to be kennelled commercially - even after discounts - it would cost the charity between £700 and £1000 per week to provide them with accommodation.
However, many of the dogs that go through the centre could not be kept in commercial kennels or any normal rescue centre setup as the stress of a standard kennel environment would be counter productive to their care and wellbeing. If they had not come to us for re-habilitation, some of the dogs we have successfully re-habilitated and re-homed would have been PTS, as they had already been turned away by so many other re-homing centres as being too problematic or aggressive to take in and handle.
The centre, with its rural location, 10 acres of land and extensive facilities, can give more to our dogs than a foster home or normal kennel environment and enables us to provide safe sanctuary to some dogs that would be a liability in other types of environment.

The centre costs the charity £550 a week to run and we need support to keep it open and running.
None of this money goes on wages because no-one in BCR is paid - we are all  volunteers - we give our time and work freely.

We need your help to keep the centre running - regular income is important to pay running costs as they arise and will also help us improve facilities to offer more to the dogs using the centre, which is equally important to its future success.
We need at least another 10 centres, like this one, in the UK to be able to deal with all the unwanted Border Collies we are asked to take on annually. This is our goal. We can do the work if we can raise the money.
If you can help us with a donation, no matter how small, it will help us keep the centre open. If you can make a regular donation via standing order - say, around the cost of a packet of 20 cigarettes a month - it will contribute to our running costs in a way that enables us to plan and develop the centre for dogs in the future.
If you are a UK tax payer you can Gift Aid your donation and we can claim back the tax you paid.
Please help us to help the dogs that need us and ensure we are still here to help in the future.
